Even though Hummus Elite is mostly about hummus and
has only 10 tables, a friend urged me to try it. I did,
and was enchanted by almost every dish I ate. In the
hummus category, these dishes included hummus with beef,
hummus with eggplant, plain hummus and hummus with mushrooms
and truffle oil. In the nonhummus category, they consisted
of silky, roasted eggplant; ground beef-and-lamb kebabs
fragrant with coriander; and, most surprising of all,
an eight-ounce hamburger that, like the best backyard
burgers, tasted as if it had been cooked over charcoal
instead of just gas.
